love this product. spent $18 for this product, $4 of 3 (1.5 x 0.5 x 96 inch) wood at home depot, with extra hardware laying around in my garage. i spent a total $22 instead of paying $36 for that vinyl at home depot at $9 for 9ft long garage door seal. basically what i did 1st was cut the wood to length, drill holes every 12 inch and countersink them too, and paint them to the color of my house trim. 2nd I use a heat gun to straighten the vinyl since the product comes in rolled up there is a lot of bend and unevenness. 3rd i used my 18 gauge nailer and nail in the vinyl into the wood ( you could use caulking in between the wood and vinyl for a better seal). 4th i predrill some screws into the wood for a easier way to screw the wood onto the side of the garage opening. i did the top seal and then the sides after. had to cut a 45 degree to fit the sides with the top ones. after that you can cover/caulk and paint for a finish look. here are some pics. its best to do it this way than the direction that is provided. this way makes your garage looks cleaner and professionally done.

This item seems to work well. No directions so it was a try fit which way worked best. The roofing nails too big so used smaller ones I had on hand. It tends to stretch a bit so many nails. Its seems to be good thick plyable rubber so hopefully it will last. The item arrived quickly. I would suggest smaller head nails and directions. The video advised to hang it with door open but i found it best to have the door closed so to snuggly fit the gasket up to it. My garage door is dented in a couple places but could still get a snug fit. My garage door has a nice wood trim around it but there was a small gap that allowed air and noise so this was just enough to make a good seal. I did notice less rumbling sounds of the garage door as it opens and closes. My purpose in buying this was to be a sound barrier first insulation second. I have a styrofoam kit on order to do the inside of door. Our neighbors are not nice about their music or fireworks so im hoping to continue to get my home sound proofed. The garage which is always opened into the home and kitchen seems alittle quieter now.

Might be ok to use on a shed, but looks terrible on your garage. I was attempting to use this to put a seal around a newly installed vinyl garage door. Even with the help of another person, it was impossible to get this to mount flush to trim around the garage. It was wavy and would not sit flush against the trim to make it less noticeable. Add in the size of the nails and how they looked, and overall it was very unappealing on a garage door that is on the front of the house. I switched out the nails and attempted to use white 1" screws, but it was no better.

On a somewhat positive note, it made a pretty decent seal with the garage door on the limited parts that mounted flush. It may be passable if you''re using it on a shed or a garage door that is not seen/you don''t care at all about how it looks.

In the end, I went to a local hardware store and bought 7FT PFC garage trim and PVC screws with caps. Each of the PVC strips were $6.50 and I had to buy 5 to cover a standard 2 car 7 x 16 foot garage door. Add in an extra $10 for the PVC screws with caps and drill bit and the whole project cost just over $40. In my opinion, it looks 100X better, is much less noticeable, you have no noticeable screws/nails sticking out, it makes a better seal, was much quicker to install, and it will be much easier to replace in the future if required. I would highly recommend getting the PVC trim over this product. The only application I can see it being beneficial for is very short-term use on a shed or other utility building. Spend the extra $20 and get the PVC trim and PVC screws/caps. You''ll be much happier with the end result and it''s much easier to install if doing by yourself.

I had this product on the door for over a decade, I only had to replace it because I re-did the trim and the dimensions changed, otherwise the old stuff would have been fine to re-use. It is very durable and long lasting. The old stuff came with nice white painted roofing nails, which I used, but now the nails provided are galvanized and look bad so I did not use them. I used the screws pictured, purchased at Menard''s, they work much better. The strip needs no sealant to the door trim, the pressure from the door forces it into the trim and effects a seal that way, the fasteners just hold it in place, so don''t get the idea of caulking it to the trim, that is totally unnecessary. You have to set it in place so it puts light pressure on the door to get a seal, but not too much or the door might hang up and not close completely. The door itself also must have its track adjusted so it follows the door opening accurately. A little careful tweaking gets it right. Look at the bottom seal of the door where it sits on the concrete and make sure it sits the same as before the strips were installed, if you see daylight where there wasn''t any before, then the strip pressure is hanging up the door. You don''t need to miter the corners, just butt the top strip ends to the door trim and butt the side strip ends to the top strip, carve a contour in the ends of the side strips with scissors to match the profile of the top strip.

Excellent gasket for sealing the sides of your garage from wind-gusts and/or wind driven rain. The package comes with bags of roofing nails, but I didn''t bother, as they are huge and would look ugly. Instead, I used my compressor and pneumatic staple gun, purchased stainless steel staples and was able to install all 3 garages in about a half hour.

The gasket is highly pliable and conforms to the garage opening with no problem. Creates a great seal. 1 package will do 1 and half normal sized single garages.

First, I''m not totally ignorant when it comes to DIY home repairs and upgrades. I like to consider myself vetted enough to install garage door gap seals.

Stiffness:
I feel this product''s material is too stiff and not soft enough to conform to garage door abnormalities / not perfectly smooth garage doors. Perhaps this is by design and maybe it''s even a good thing so the seal lasts longer in the sun beaten and extreme cold climates. I''m not an M-D Building Products design engineer so I don''t know why these choose a seal that is quite stiff. All I know is I''ve seen other homes with seals that are slightly softer material and just seem to work better. One issue that I''d blame on the stiffness of the material is my seals have gone wavy. Wavy-ier than the California beaches.

Installation:
Their expectation is you need to hold up the seal while using their included nails to hammer and nail the seals to your garage door trim. Sadly, that''s more of a two person job. Installation of this product could be A LOT easier if M-D would partner with 3M so these seals can have 3M double sided sticky tape on them. This way the seals could be positioned and hold their position for a short time while the one person installer secures them with a fastener.

My approach to installation was to use 1.75" self tapping sheet metal screws and that seemed to work well and holding up so far for the last couple months. Screws were more convenient and quicker for me than hammer and nails.

I''ll post pictures later of the wavy seals.

I have a rollup garage door and one that slides on the outside and both needed some gap filler. On the rollup I used some strips of wood over it to get a nicer finished look and on the slider I attached it directly to the edge of the door with some self-tapping wafer head screws (also called lathe screws) and it seals the gap when I close it but it gets brittle in cold weather so I redid it with a flashing strip I cut from a roll of trim coil over it and problems solved. I wasn’t going to use the roofing nails that came with it and that worked out fine since I had to remove and reinstall some of it. I stuck the screws in some Styrofoam and then spray painted them white because I saw how much they cost pre-painted. I also had an entrance door that had warped slightly and the top hit the weather stripping fine but the bottom had a large gap. I did the same thing as I did with the rollup door and it covered the gap and looks pretty good… and was much easier than resetting the hinges and the molding couldn’t be moved. The hard part is to get it straight and not have it shrink later and leave gaps so if you’re not doing it on a hot sunny day get a heat gun because you’ll need it to get rid of the curl from the packaging. I paid about 17-bucks and purchased 2-rools but it was much less expensive than buying the overpriced garage door trim pieces form the home center… plus I used some extra hardwood I had so it should last for many more years than the composite materials used in the alternatives. I am glad I used screws because I have had to make several adjustments for cold weather because it is just not as flexible and left some gaps.

I was able to install it myself, but it was really hard to get the highest portions in place - I’m short and have no strength above my head. So i had a 91” piece and was trying to hold it straight on the door frame above me AND hold a nail in place AND hammer it in - not easy. All i needed was one person to hold it for me to get it started, but thats not exactly something i have access to. I needed up getting it placed with the nails 1/2 driven, and then adjusted the placement and nails afterwards. So i have a lot more holes in the door frame than what would be ideal, but hey, the thing is up, and it is keeping the heat in and the cold out pretty darn well.

It did have places in the roll that were a little warped... when i measured it the longer flap would be sticking up in waves. This doesn’t seem to affect the functionality once the seal is placed, just kind of annoying. I think this can be attributed to the stretching capability of this seal, which is great in most cases but was definitely a little annoying when i went back to do my readjustment. Because this will stretch, but wont ‘stretch back,’ so to speak, to maintain tension. It stays stretched out once you stretch it.

I’m in the midst of installing this right now and I’m shocked it has as good of a review as it does. On the vertical seals, even with PL to glue it and a nail every 6”, it’s still unavoidably wavy. I’m not even going to attempt the top seal - I’ll be forking out for the rigid stuff - and if I hadn’t left the project so long it ran past the Amazon return, it’d be on its way back right now. Do it right or do it twice.

I found applying it too snug caused the door to go back up as the vinyl is not as flexible as I would have liked. I would suggest installing it so that it lightly touches the door. If your garage faces alley this is acceptable. If your garage is at front of house & aesthetics is a priority then buy the home depot solid mouldings. I didn''t want to spend $150 at home depot but I still wanted to keep dust, bugs, wind, out of the garage & keep heat in. My garage door is 16'' wide 7'' tall. I used wood screws at each end & every 2 feet & nails in between. Its best not to put screws or hammer nails too deep as it causes unsightly warping of the weatherstrip. Seal the gaps with weather proof silicone & paint weatherstrip to match surrounding fascia. When installing don''t push strip too hard against garage door or garage door motor will be overworking as door will be dragging on weatherstrip. Spray silicone spray on back side of weatherstrip & at bottom corners where the side strips meet the bottom garage door weather strip as this will lessen friction.
